HOPE Scholarship Eligibility Updates for the 2026-2027 School Year

The eligibility rules for the West Virginia Hope Scholarship Program have been updated for 2026-2027. Eligibility now expands to any student eligible to be enrolled in a West Virginia public school, including current nonpublic school students without prior public-school enrollment. Please read the important announcement below from the Hope Scholarship newsletter regarding new applicants for the 2026-2027 school year:

"Students who are newly eligible to apply for the Hope Scholarship in the 2026-2027 school year under the expanded eligibility rules are encouraged to act now to request a West Virginia Education Information System (WVEIS) ID number from their county board of education, if they don’t already have one. The WVEIS ID# is a required field on the Hope Scholarship application. All new applicants must have their WVEIS ID# from the county board of education before they can successfully complete their Hope Scholarship application in the online portal when the 2026-2027 new application window opens on March 2, 2026." (Source: Hope Scholarship Newsletter, Volume 4, Issue 15| Special Edition-November 2025)

Below, you will find a link to a WVEIS ID Request form that can be submitted to your county's board office. All new applicants - both those applying under the expanded eligibility as well as incoming Kindergarten students for 2026-2027 - must apply for a WVEIS ID to apply for the HOPE Scholarship.
